By Graham Burchell

White water parted
Where a fallen tree had lodged

The froth and suck
The shredding of molecules
Through black nodes

Soundless as a thousand owls
Taking flight as one
From forest perches

Above her scream
Mute like a giraffe
Brought down in rain

Without a beat
Driven by wind
That had not learned to howl
