Fall Ends By Halsted like this slight to heavy rains winds rattle the now sere leaves in the trees the brown leaves, the yellow brown leaves the bald birches stand white in the desolation the crow screams at the nuthatches the geese have flown to warmer climates the swan swims to the more active water so as not to be caught in ice we search for the last sun of the day at four we stare out the window and fear that this coming winter will be the worst in history and the sky will crack and pur out unrelenting snow the oaks hold their leaves the longest and the fur and spruce revel covered in spider sparkles the child with the wet socks cries. © Copyright 1996, Halsted, All Rights Reserved. |
