The Spirit of Nia by Jamela S. Green Last night I saw myself But it wasn't me It felt like me, it smelt like me. I looked in the mirror and what did I see I saw my ancestors calling out my name They said, child, don't you know How we struggled And I could see the pain and the tears in their eyes That's when I realized That their struggle was still mine And I could not rest inside So now I sit and gather my thoughts My purpose is known The struggle is on I challenge you to take a part To touch a heart Touch a mind Become one, intertwine Let them all know Hell no, we won't go Quietly Our spirit on fire And you see Before I burn up inside I'll set mine free and tell them all why my ancestors died Last night I saw myself And it was me I had passed on And now my spirit sings this song. |
