shi came by Christopher F. Reitmaier You come to me Tonight in Ukiyoe scenes, under ugly American skies, I dream, Kakemono sister. Mindful of you, Once honest, now frozen And forever: I waft through stilted sleep. ________________________ Mr. Reitmaier provided the following footnotes: "[This is] an acrostic elegy for Yuko Tamai. Shi is a Japanese word for death. Ukiyoe is a traditional style of Japanese painting in which the artist depicts scenes from everyday life. This style was popular in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries. Kakemono is a secret and important writing." |
