The Fall 2004 Authors

Andrea L. Alterman is a computer professional from Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. Mr./Ms. Alterman has been writing since she was 10 years old. She has published work in Red River Review, The Fairfield Review, The Littoral, and Poet Warriors for Feb.2004. She won Honorable Mention in the Greenburgh Poetry Contest. Ms. Alterman is a member of Hudson Valley Writer's Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY. H

Robert James Berry is a Librarian from Auckland, New Zealand. Mr. Berry has been writing for over twenty years and has published work in journals in the U.S., U.K., New Zealand, England, Sweden, Trinidad, Germany, India, Greece and Australia. He is the recipient of the Shell Poetry Prize.

Kirsten Crowley* is a high school student from Stamford, CT. Ms. Crowley has been writing since the fourth grade. She has published work in her school newspaper, "Young Poets Speak Out" anthology, and the SHS Writer's Group magazine. Ms. Crowley is the president of the SHS Writer's Group and leader of the Stamford Border's Books Open Mic Poetry night.

Lynn Tudor Deming* is a psychologist and psychoanalyst from Redding, CT. Ms. Deming has been writing seriously for the past eight years. She has published work in Dogwood (June 2004) and the upcoming October 2004 issue of Atlanta Review (Fall Contest Issue). She has won the 2004 International Publication Prize and Cash Prize from Atlanta Review, finalist in 2004 Dogwood Poetry Contest, and finalist in 2003 Center for Book Arts Chapbook Competition. Ms. Deming is a member of Connecticut Poetry Society.

Rose Drew is a student and bio-anthropologist from Norwalk, CT. Ms. Drew has been writing since the age of ten. She has published work in the Hartford Courant, The Fairfield Review, and numerous magazines and anthologies, two books, trade articles and poetry published by Yale University and in other trade archaeology journals, and on-line in political "blogs". Ms. Drew's poetry has been displayed in the Gertrude White Gallery, and she has won prizes at Norwalk Community College, honorable mention for the Brodine Contest in The Connecticut River Review. Ms. Drew is a member of the First Tuesday poetry group in Wilton, CT. She writes "I read my work as loudly and as often as possible; I hope to piss off at least 3 people and inspire several more."

Mary Ellen Elias is a senior writer for Internet advertising from E. Norwalk, CT. Ms. Elias has been writing since a teenager. She has published work in The Hartford Courant, The Fairfield Review, The Weekly, The New Haven Register, and The Stamford Advocate. She was a finalist in the Blue Mountain Arts poetry contest. .

Taylor Graham is a writer and editor from Somerset, CA. Ms. Graham has been writing since 1960. She has published work in America, Grand Street, The Iowa Review, The New York Quarterly, Poetry International, Texas Review, The Fairfield Review and others. She won the Berkeley Poets Contest and others. Ms. Graham is a member of Red Fox Poetry, Tuesday at Two.

Donald Hiscock* is a journalist from Southampton, Ha. in the U.K. Mr. Hiscock has been writing for twenty years. The Fairfield Review is his debut publication.

R. Thomas Hogg* is a Ph.D. student from New York, NY. Mr. Hogg has been writing since the seventh grade. The Fairfield Review is his debut publication. An excerpt from his novel, "The Sinner's Saint," was chosen for reading at the 2000 Baylor University "Art & Soul" literary conference.

John Jeffrey* is a software specialist from Waterbury, CT. Mr. Jeffrey has been writing since adolescence, and he's "been fighting it now for over 30 years." He has published work in Writer's Journal, Conatus (a college journal), Byline, Stolen Snapshots. He has won various wins, places, and shows, in contests by magazines such as Writer's Digest, Byline, Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, and the Conatus Award for Fiction. Mr. Jeffrey is a member of The Academy of American Poets. He writes "The best teachers are the masters. Read the Canon!"

Fran Levin is a storyteller, hospital clown, meditation teacher from Arnold, MD. She has been writing for 30 years. In 1992 she traveled to Russia with Dr. Patch Adams to clown in children’s hospitals, orphanages and reform schools. Following that, she became a clown doctor at Stamford Hospital in CT. Fran has self-published a book of poems about her patients when she was a nurse, called Peel Me a Star. She is very involved in teaching and practicing meditation, educating about the power of nonviolence, and loves to dance. Ms. Levin is a member of Maryland writer's group.

Elizabeth Sosaya* is a teacher of special education from Fresno, CA. Ms. Sosaya has been writing for twenty years. She has published work in the Antigonish Review. She won the Ina Coolbrith Poetry Circle award in 1986.

Allison Whittenberg is a teacher from Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Whittenberg has been writing for "too many [years] to count." She has published work in Sweet Thang (Random House 2006), Sassy, Caloloo, Virgin Fiction II, DOJ, Columbia Review, The Black College Student, and The Southern Indiana Review. She has won the John Steinbeck Writing Award. Ms.Whittenberg is a member of The Loft.
