About The Spring 1997 Edition

In this second issue of The Fairfield Review we are pleased to provide a wide range of topics and artists from our area. To select pieces for this edition, we toured the local bookstores, writer's groups and special events to hear authors read their work. When we heard something we felt our readers would like, we asked the author to send us a copy for the magazine. Almost all were eager and pleased to send us their work. Many of the writers have not published previously, appearing here for the first time.

Among the pieces you will find in this issue are the lyrics of a rap song written by a teenager from Bridgeport, a poem from a elementary school teacher working in New Milford, and a short story from a member of the Writer's Voice in Fairfield. We are proud to have assembled such a variety of voices. After reading this issue, we think you will agree with us that creative writing is alive and well in our small corner of New England.

A number of you have asked us about publishing our thoughts on the type of writing we are seeking. We have included a brief essay on this topic, found here, based on an analogy borrowed from a local merchant. In addition, Gordon Edwards, an author from our Winter issue, and phantom of the magazine's editing room, has provided some thoughts on exchanging poetry and providing constructive feedback, which you can jump to here.

Please send us your comments and suggestions. When you visit our site, please fill out our Guest Book or drop us an note via email. Feedback from our readers is still a primary motivator for a venture such as this, and we watch our cyber mailboxes daily. Please encourage your fellow readers and writers to visit The Fairfield Review and submit their writing for consideration in our Fall issue. We continue to encourage submissions from students and new writers, and hope to have a number of promising young adults in the next issue.

We hope you enjoy this collection of creative writing in the short form. You can expect to see us at the "open mike" nights at the local bookstores, and may even get to hear your editors trying their hand at poetic expression. Together we look forward to following Blake's golden thread to heaven's gate.
