Natural Selection
By Ruth Dombrow

Wind chimes coyly toying
with the squirrel
who sits tall in the black birch
screeching darkness
at the neighbor's tabby
who wanders by to molest the
blue jay trying to pilfer seed
from the finch feeder.

Just another day in the country.
