Springtime
By Susan Landon

Red tulips praying in the morning sun,
forsythia in flames of gold,
and magnolias with breasts overflowing,
spilling petals to the ground.

The heart is the truest judge of season.
Winter's freeze can come in June,
torrid summer in December's night.
And opulent spring can blossom
when autumn bares the souls of trees.

But O to join May's mad revelry,
inhale alluring perfumes,
whirl in a frenzy of color,
become the thrill of sap
rushing headlong into flower.
