Triolet on Initials Carved into a Park Bench
By Tara Grover Smith

On painfully searing days as these,
I scratch my fingers on splinters of you,
scorch on young wood, bare thighs and knees
on painfully searing days as these.

Initials faded and failed, now I release
rage, love and age, your burdens too.
On painfully searing days as these,
I scratch my fingers on splinters of you.
